Overview

The North Weston Secondary Spillway Upgrade involved the rehabilitation and enhancement of the existing spillway infrastructure to improve hydraulic performance, structural integrity, and environmental resilience. The works were executed in accordance with TCCS standards and environmental management requirements, ensuring minimal disruption to surrounding areas and optimal long-term functionality of the dam embankment and spillway system.

The project involved stripping and stockpiling existing rip rap, removing and disposing of geofabric, and reprofiling the dam embankment via excavation, filling, and compaction. Foundation preparation and installation of new geofabric preceded the staged construction of gabion baskets and reno mattresses, filled with both recovered and imported rockfill. Oversized materials were strategically placed, followed by concrete works for the new sill beam.

This project was raised to Wodens through the TCCS Civil Works Panel agreement. This procurement method streamlined contractor engagement and accelerated timelines.

The outcome of the project was positive. The works had to be redesigned due to the supplied levels. Wodens in house survey team redesigned the project to suit the desired outcome of the client. The works were delayed because of this but this was agreed and understood by the client. The works met the contract budget.
